ASSIGNMENT #1 - NATURE & MAN-MADE

NATURE - BEST 5

1. A FOREST TALE

Location: Singapore Botanic Gardens
Date taken: 17 May 2012

Aperture: f 2.8
Shutter speed: 1/60
ISO: 80
Size: 4000 x 3000 px
Camera used: Lumix FZ35 Cam

This is ranked first because of the hidden intention behind it.
When I look at the picture, I picture a past whereby many have stumbled
upon this place and have gone beyond.
The chair sits in its fixed place and depicts many memories of the people that have
passed here.
This picture to me, portrays a mystical story with its effects and lighting
and style built upon.
It seems so fairytale-like isn't it? (:

2. FOREST LANE

Location: Hort Park
Date taken: 19 May 2012

Aperture: f 2.8
Shutter speed: 1/100
ISO: 80
Size: 4000 x 3000 px
Camera used: Lumix FZ35 Cam

Now I was quite proud of this picture as well.
Why I chose this photo is simply because of its ability to portray meanings.
The reason i selected this is similar to the first photo, just that from this angle,
it depicts a lane for people & couples (See that couple over there)
to further explore and gain new knowledge about the world
and themselves/ourselves.
This angle is perfect for that depiction because we always start from the bottom (without any
knowledge) before we rise to the top right? (:

3. NATURE'S SUNSET

Location: Hort Park
Date taken: 19 May 2012

Aperture: f 5.6
Shutter speed: 1/200
ISO: 80
Size: 4000 x 3000 px
Camera used: Lumix FZ35 Cam

This is one of the most beautiful scenes i've ever captured/seen actually.
It seems to vintage-like naturally without even any effects and
gives me a very very vibrant, happy, contented feel to it.
With the camera flare due to the blazing sun. this photo is able to release its
beauty without even needing much editing to it.
The reason why there're people on the road appreciating the bright pouring
sunlight is to display how
nature is appreciated in everyday life.

4. VINTAGE PORTRAYAL

Location: Singapore Botanic Gardens
Date taken: 17 May 2012

Aperture: f 5.6
Shutter speed: 1/320
ISO: 80
Size: 4000 x 3000 px
Camera used: Lumix FZ35 Cam

I turned this into a black and white picture because this photo is able to portray
a sorta solemn, gloomy but beautiful vintage feel to it.
The branches of the trees were captured in such a way that it seems
that they will slowly overwhelm you and envelop you in their
darkness,
forever trapping you in their world.

 5. ENTRANCE TO A FAIRY TALE

Location: Singapore Botanic Gardens
Date taken: 17 May 2012

Aperture: f 3.0
Shutter speed: /50
ISO: 80
Size: 4000 x 3000 px
Camera used: Lumix FZ35 Cam

This picture would be the 5th best because although it's not as good
as the previous 4 pictures, it displays an array of colorful petals.
As such, this would depict a beautiful nature garden,
showing its vibrance and summer flowering.

MAN-MADE - BEST 5

1. SUBWAY LINE

Location: Somerset MRT Station
Date taken: 12 May 2012

Aperture: f 2.8
Shutter speed: 1/15
ISO: 400
Size: 2048 x 1536 px
Camera used: Lumix FZ35 Cam

This is my best picture for manmade because the dark foggy corners and the
almost greyscale tone portrays the everyday life that we
Singaporeans face.
It shows a dull tone that we feel because of how familiar
we are with the country and how much some of us yearn to travel abroad
to see the world beyond.

2. PASSAGE OF TIME

Location: Clarke Quay
Date taken: 20 May 2012

Aperture: f 5.0
Shutter speed: 1/250
ISO: 80
Size: 4000 x 3000 px
Camera used: Lumix FZ35 Cam

I love this picture so much because although it actually isn't
a clock but an ornament, just taken from below.
However the lighting was really sufficient and it was able
make me feel like the little rectangular metal pieces
were fragments of people's memories.
Together with the circular shape that looks like a clock,
it makes me believe that it
looks like the
Passage of Time.

 3. CONCRETE JUNGLE

Location: Marina Bay Sands
Date taken: 20 May 2012

Aperture: f 6.3
Shutter speed: 1/500
ISO: 5
Size: 4000 x 3000 px
Camera used: Lumix FZ35 Cam

Alright so i captured the staircase as well because it seems
like it's an entrance to a world of concrete,
where all buildings are made of slab and are man-made.
The sunlight further enhances the concrete-look as well.

 4. CITY SKYLINE

Location: Marina Bay Sands
Date taken: 20 May 2012

Aperture: f 8.0
Shutter speed: 1/640
ISO: 80
Size: 4000 x 3000 px
Camera used: Lumix FZ35 Cam

I love this picture as well!
This is because not only does it display nature's sunset,
it also depicts the enhanced silhouettes of the concrete buildings
against the powerful rays of the sun,
bringing our day to an end and
signaling a new tomorrow.

5. GREY UNDERPASS

Location: Orchard Road
Date taken: 13 May 2012

Aperture: f 2.8
Shutter speed: 1/60
ISO: 80
Size: 4000 x 3000 px
Camera used: Lumix FZ35 Cam

And finally, i chose this greyscale underpass
because it is able to show us how much the world has changed since
the start of our existence.
It's so modern now as compared to the walkways that we had last time and
now we even have our very own modern
constructed underpasses.
I also like this picture because the greyscale look
reminds me of the subways in the Western countries
that look really old-ish and antique-like and
vintage-y.
This makes me feel like i'd enjoy my ride in the MRT
as much as i enjoy my rides in the subway in Germany (:
